My 18 year old daughter says a BMW doesn't count as a Mini now I wonder where she gets that notion from.

And as for moving on - well I hope not, as a 57 year old I've been into Mk1's since my teens and my wife reckons if I haven't changed by now I never will.

            All the best, Neil.

And let's not forget the leather seats and walnut dash. A friend has one on a P plate, I often wonder what did it cost new and how much was an Escort 1600 Ghia then.

Normally Porsches do nothing for me but Martins 964 is very nice ..

Out of interest, what are they like to keep on the road ?
Availability and price of parts etc ?

As you slide down the bannister of life, may the splinters be pointing t'other way !

                      According to wikipedia:

In 1974, a time when the UK starting price for the Austin Allegro was given as £1159, BLMC were quoting, at launch, a list price of £1951 for the Vanden Plas 1500

                        Thanks Ken

Parts are readily available from Porsche Dealers and specialists. Prices in general are very good and servicing is not unreasonable even if you use a recommended Porsche Specialist.

A service history and stamps are more important and buyers want to see plenty of recent service history and receipts for parts.
                        Cheers

Quite good to live with the Porkers then, I can see the attraction

I found a price for the Vanden Plas 1500 during 1978 of £3951, which is quite a hike up from first being introduced. I could not find the cost of the Escort Ghia without digging out my brochures, but someone should know on here, probably not much difference. From 76 to 79 I used to sell these sweet cars brand new and if I remember right the price was being increased every 3 months across the BL range! There was a plus side to all this though, if we bought our stock in at the current price then it would accumulate increases over the following months making deals very favourable to negotiate.

To be fair these cars were quite well ahead of their time, having a single overhead cam engine and a five speed gearbox. As sellers we all wished it had been a hatchback, which would have helped it sell many more! Sad thing is that there were plenty of them sold and like mk3 cortinas, vauxhalls etc, there are not many left!
