  • Applied for V5C and received Built Up Vehicle Report Forms

Hoping for a bit of help here fellas.

As above, I applied for the V5C for my Escort and came home today these forms from the DVLA. Now my understanding is that these forms are for kit cars or things that are going to be "age related" or Q plated. Which obviously I dont want as I have the original chassis number still stanped in the inner wing and I know the registration number of the car, which were appropriately filled in on the V5 application form.

I got the shell and all its parts in boxes as the lad I bought it from had stripped it then realised it was way above his skill level to put back on the roads. This was back in 2012 and since then I have been constantly promised a V5 but have had no results and in the past 6 month he split from his Mrs, closed his business and vanished into thin air and no one seems to know where he is or has any contact information for him. There was a hand scribbled receipt I got with it and that was it, nothing formal from him. As far as Im aware he got the full V5 from the farmer he bought it from but never changed it to his own name. Now as the car is finally approaching MOT time I decided to apply for a book for it myself and cut him out of the equation.

I obviously have no pictures of it as a complete car before I got it but do have plenty of the day it arrived and the work I have put in to it, including very clear pictures of the original numbers still in the inner wing.

Have any of you guys ever experienced this or have any knowledge on what to do in this situation??

    Thanks in advance.

Have you checked online to see if the cars details are still available. It might be DVLAs new approach to people applying (without a V5) to be a new keeper of a vehicle that has been off the road for some time! Did they not give you an explanation letter.

As stated above this is the DVLA putting a stop to people trying to obtain new documents useing V5s from cars that have been off the road for years

Unless you can prove ownership the car will be subject to a VOSA inspection and if in order issued a Q Plate

Thanks for the speedy replies lads. An online tax check shows its last tax expired in 1991. The lad I got the car from said the farmer he bought it off had it laid up in a shed for about 20 years. I have recently done an HPI check on it as well and it all comes back clear so surely these two things show there is some kind of information on the database somewhere. I dont have any issue filling the forms in and even letting them inspect it, I will even accept an age related plate if I have to but Im not keen on a Q plate.

If it was an import then an age related plate would be issued but if they think it is built up from bits then it will be a Q plate

If you can show its the original car with its original parts then hopefully you may get the original reg

DVLA also have a policy that if they find a car that had false ID it will be confiscated and destroyed

Ill struggle to prove they are the original parts on the car, although I have no doubt they are, as there is nothing to back it up with.

Alan what you say is untrue

Please read this Alan. It clearly states use this form if the previous owner does not supply a V5 or it is lost or stolen

There is also a section asking why you don't have the v5.

If the dvla are unhappy they will ask to inspect the car and the only thing they check is if the car has a chassis number they are not intrested in the parts

Just ring the dvla mate and I'm sure they will sort.

Forgot to say if you hpi the car it should give you reg number and chassis number. Use this on the v62 form you are entitled to keep it

Thanks Sharks. I filled out the V62 and supplied the correct chassis number and reg and there was a box to tick if you bought car and were not supplied with a V5. That was a couple of weeks ago and then these "built up car" forms arrived. Like I say Im happy for them to check the car for its numbers etc.

Btw, Im the lad who had the screen seal confusions a few weeks ago. Thanks again for sorting it out.

Just ring them up as I'm sure they have made a mistake about your V5

Alan. I just bought a UK Mexico mk1 from holland that had been over there since 84 it had no paperwork ....I did a hpi on the chassis number which was still stamped into the car I filled out the v62 and they issued a log book

I know of 1 person that had been asked to send a photo in after applying for a v5 with the number plates showing.
