AVO club

Been wondering if it is worth joining the AVO club.
I have been a member of the RSOC now since 1999, albeit on and off. Since my interest no longer lies with the more modern range I'm finding it offers less and less to me now and considering no longer joining. The magazine, whilst has improved of late, does not really do anything anymore for me having been there and done it with Escort Cosworths and RS turbo's etc. Since buying my Mk1 (first ''old skool'' car I have ever owned) I am more into the old stuff now and the Rallye news does not often have much content of interest in that department. I was wondering if the AVO club magazine etc would be better? I could not be a full member as I do not own an AVO car, but that goes the same now for the RSOC.

I joined the BB a while ago Chris but as ya say not much to see without being a member. Just wondering what the mags are like etc

for what it costs i dont think you can go wrong to be honest, even not having an AVO specific car, but thats my opinion, give it a try, like everything else though, the more you get involved and the more you contribute, the more you get out of it

I put the magazine together for the club. It's produced quarterly and we've managed to keep at a consistent 48 pages now for a good few years, without any adverts.

As far as content is concerned, we have regular features about the fate of the original RS dealers, 'how to' articles, registrar reports, technical help, event reports, plus a good varied selection of articles from members. There is also the Havoc Files, which is an extract of the list I've put together of every car to have featured in the magazine over the last 35 years. If a member's car has been featured in the magazine over that time then they are able to get a scanned copy of the article.

Obviously the standard does vary from edition to edition depending on the level of contributions I get, because at the end of the day it's just me and my battered old PC that get the thing put together. We don't have the resources of the MG club, or any of the big boys!

The RS Owners magazine has really improved recently, and you do get 6 magazines for your money compared to 4 with the Avo club. I would personally agree though that the content probably reflects the demographic of the membership, which is mostly the more modern stuff.
