You only have to look at MK1 Stu's 1300 Sport to see what goes into these cars today. Also there is a lad on OSF who has restored a 1300e absolutely stunning and attention to detail second to none.
It's cars (and their owners) like these that deserve credit and are worthy of high values.

once i get into my new workshop i will be able to finish her, she is on hold till then, i cant get in there till April unfortunately, but im glad you like her, i have put a lot of heart and soul into her
i have been buying loads ready to do the purple one, and that will be to the same standard, just less welding involved thankfully, she has only done 6300 miles from new

This topic can relate to all things almost all things desirable and needy!!, we all wish (almost all! as some were lucky...not through hindsight usually ) to have owned/bought cars, property etc when prices seemed reasonable (ish). I certainly feel for people trying to get on "the ladder" these days be it cars or property or whatever....And certainly never imagined at the time of purchasing my house/ or mk1 that a few years down the line the price they would attract!
Ive often said to many that it would take a silly offer for me to part with the mk1, but at some of the prices lately who knows????
sorry im talking rubbish its a keeper.... id only have to buy another ....at a silly price!!
