  • Focus WRC history ?

Two different publishers have approached me, asking if I would be interested in writing a book about the Focus WRC programme. But would it be commercially viable ?

Reason for my reluctance, I don't think a proper book could retail for less than £30, maybe even more ....

There's plenty of event history and photos out there for sure, and if anyone could pull it off, you're the kiddy Graham ....... but does the car have that "following" the older rally cars had, have and will have ?
I guess you could cover the road cars in a section also .......

Personally it's not something I would purchase even with my love of the sport and loving the history side of it too .......

I think that era could be of interest to lots of people out there, I was 13 years old in 98 so remember the cars release, adverts on the TV, on stands at the NEC and making it to the stages and finally going onto the Clubman ie Bogie. It's the one I remember most after the GC8 McRae Impreza time. I don't know that the Focus has enough history as the Escorts to make a book completely on them, what makes the Works Escort book brilliant is all the number changing, re shells and general gossip you read about on here all listed in the one book. Did this happen in the Focus era? Is there enough to fill a book? The later Focus that Perez, Petch, Bird etc all have seemed to be everywhere and still are everywhere so not really all that interesting.
For me I don't think just the Focus has that cult following to make it interesting enough to buy but what I would buy would be one covering Focus, Puma and Ka Boreham built cars. Lots of the Ka's and Puma's were Chris Birkbeck built, and kit form but genuine ones are of interest, even the later Escorts there must have been some goings on during this time with them?
That's my view as an almost 29 year old , nothing compares to the MK1 & 2 Escorts, I have one of each however a genuine Boreham built Puma is high up the list to buy once I have the Escorts done, Mortgage paid, had enough kids etc etc etc.

Hi Graham, The book you should be writing is "The Mick Jones story" and include a big chapter on the RS1700t. I have been badgering him to write a book and at the NEC last November he said I was right and he needs to do it. I have sent him loads of stuff to use, between the pair of you you could write a best seller give him a bell, I like the wrc focus but this is a book that would sell like hot cakes.Tell him I've put you up to it lol.
            regards Paul

Yes , I agree as well. This definitely needs to be put in a book. & a decent book on the building of the RS200.

Agreed, this is the book that's currently missing from ford rally history.
