  • No Tax Disc

I read now that you can pay your road tax by monthly direct debit,, so does it mean if you only want to tax the car for say 2 month then all you need to do is declare sorn after two month and cancel the direct debit ?

Yeah thats about it Alan, but you have to pay for the whole month. Its good for those who buy tax for the 6 months could increase it to 7-8 months if the weather makes it worth it. Or just if it snows just for the week with a set of M+S tyres fitted has to be worth a months tax

Well thats the theory anyway, sadly like anything UKGov does when it comes to computers, the system seems to be having lots of trouble at the moment..........

Just to think most MK1 owners are chuckling at the thought of paying for road tax

I think the tax cut off at 40 years is right.

All things are relative I would rather pay a years tax and be able to buy a tidy Mk1 RS2000 for £4000 like you could in the mid-late 90's before Classic Escort tax came along !!!!

Just think if the old 25yr exemption rule had not been stopped. Most 2WD Saffy Cossies would now be free tax , as would all Capris, Series 1 RST's as well as a chunk of Golf GTI's, 205's etc and other 80's cars...

I'm starting to wonder looking at all the cars in breakers that seem to be no more than 10yrs old and scrapped if anything made today would be around in 40yrs time as cars seem to be disposable (In the UK at least)..
