There's always little add on's that sneak in with new laws, the electronic tax disc comes into effect in October, from that date, when you sell your car privately, the tax expires automatically the day you sell it and a refund is given for any full months remaining. The buyer will have to tax the car to legally drive it away or face prosecution if caught.
So if you sell in the middle of the month you will not get a rebate for that month but the buyer will have to tax it from the start of the month to legally drive away, so DVLA receive payment twice for the same car for the same month !!
