Er, not really. Just thought it best to buy one as it could prove cost effective. Need to get one for the NEC in November as hiring one is about £40 a day. Also will be using it for Cumbria for the weekend as I can't be arsed with that back-breaking drive!!!!!!!!! Looking into getting a track car as well (205) so would do for that as well.

Er, was looking along the lines of "A little cheaper" as I'm kind of skint at the mo after buying a new house!!!!!!!!! Been looking at the knackers on ebay and might have found an ok one. Will have to see how the bidding goes though. Will be using my Golf to tow it. Would that be ok to use?????

Don't think the kerb weight has got anything to do with max towing weight.
I'd be surprised if a Golf has got a towing weight even for a braked trailer with an Escort (~1000kg) on it. Don't forget the weight of the trailer too!

Got my trailor from E-Bay. Found tiwn axle's were going for £300 to £800.
Mine was £500, but beware.
I got mine out of e-bay as i needed it for Croft and only had 3 days to get one. Although it is a strong trailor and looked good in the pics. It doesn't have suspension, the brakes are only on the front wheels. The rear axle is made from mk2 escort front stub axles !! And it can be a little unstable at 60mph.
By the letter of the law you cannot tow an unbraked trailor if it is over 750kg, you cannot tow over 110% of the tow cars weight although the manufacture will set the tow limit.
I tow my mk2 or XR4i and both look smaller than my MGZS which i use to tow with. But i think the XR will be over the max tow weight set by Rover. I just drive slow 50 to 55mph and make sure to all looks ok i.e strapped down and all lights working. Less chance of plod pulling me over.
