LAKES TOUR 2014
First of all I must apologize for not keeping you all up to date regarding the Lakes Tour 2014, however we are but a few weeks away now and things are changing all the time.
We have been out and done the route and just have to do the road book, which will be sorted in the coming weeks. The route is about 100 miles this year and covers some narrow roads and fell passes with a visit to a very interesting venue for lunch with a good back drop and large area for parking, making it ideal for photographs of the cars, with lots to see and do so hopefully you will all spend about an hour or more at the lunch stop. There are also different places of interest on the route for you to stop off at and these will be marked in the road book.
This will be the 9th Lakes Tour to date and as you can imagine it doesn’t get any easier each year trying to find different places for 200 cars to go, never mind things for you all to see and do, but this year we have come up with a route that is just that bit different. There will only be one route this year so be aware that you are all running together and try to keep your distance between other tour cars and other road users. Some of the fell roads have passing places; please give way to the locals and stay safe. The prize for first back to the Heaves this year is litter picking - slow down it’s a tour, not a ''rally''!
There has been a change since the entry list went live in the respect of our sponsors. As you are all aware, Retroford are not involved this year but GS Escorts have come forward and matched what I had been given in the past from Retroford, so big thanks to Graham at GS Escorts. I did increase the price of the tour this year to cover the initial lack of sponsorship, so to return this I have arranged a light lunch for all the drivers at a very nice venue that has not been used on any of the previous Lakes Tours. There will be a designated ‘Lakes Tour’ parking area and dining room and you will have access to all areas of the grounds and attractions. Hopefully, the weather will be a bit kinder this year to enable you all to have a good wander around. To gain entry into the lunch stop you will all need to have your Lakes Tour plate visible and produce your lunch ticket, which will be in the road books for drivers only. As I have not incorporated the lunch for passengers in the tour price, all passengers will have to pay on the day.
At the Heaves Hotel this year meals will be available on Friday evening along with camping. Some of you have booked in all ready for camping but we do have some spaces left (but only for participants taking part in the tour). Caravans are not allowed.
Please remember you are in the hotel grounds and it is the hotel gardens you are camping in - keep the litter to a minimum and use bin bags which will be provided. No open fires in the grounds please. Showers will again be provided along with the luxury trailer toilets and wash basins. In past years some have given room keys to mates so they can shower in the hotel; I know this happens as I have done it myself but I have been made aware from Miles and Kathrine that it is becoming a problem and have been asked to make everyone aware that they will be watching this year.
I have security on the gate Friday night and Saturday night. If you are leaving your car at the Heaves Hotel overnight and staying at another hotel please tell me before you do and I will tell you where to park it. DO NOT LEAVE CARS PARKED ON SATURDAY night without seeing myself or Bob - THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT as otherwise we may need them moved early on Sunday for the show. (In other words, Bob will not hesitate to tow your car out of the way!!). The same applies to trailers - they must be parked in the car park at all times when uncoupled from your support car, all support cars must be parked in the car park not with the old skool cars on the lawns.
