Im thinking of getting some metal no. plates for my escorts, what are peoples opinions of the reflective riveted or pressed plates on an escort? I have fake riveted ones atm, they look good but I fancy a change.

Technically its illegal to have them on anything other than pre 73 vehicles and would have the same punishment as when people have fancy scripts etc... I can only guess that coppers nowadays just don't know their stuff! lol
Go for what you want, if its post 73 then it has to be White/Yellow. I like the pressed type over the riveted type. If you like the rivered type then go for it and stop worrying about it
For me it depends on what was popular for that period. If black and silver plates were fitted when new then it looks right to have them on, but if you are putting them on a car that should not have them then I don't think it looks cool at all! They are not only illegal, they just look well out of place! Cars originally fitted with reflective plates up to about 1975, looked good with the raised digit reflelective plates, afterwards when reflective perspex were introduced, then these look right! One thing to remember is that as soon as the reflective perspex where introduced, nobody wanted the pressed type. Reflective was what they wanted, as they were easier to keep clean and they stayed looking new! All dealers realised this and perspex where then the standard fitment for most garages. Around 78 a calculator style digit type was introduced on pressed plates which stood out from all the others. I believe there was a problem with the very first ones made, as they did not comply with the law as they where not easily legible. These looked quite different and I quite liked them, but they were short lived. You see very few Mk2's fitted with this type now!
Square number plates were also an option on Mk1 Escorts and mk2 Mexicos/Sports, but was not as popular as the standard rectangular shape!
