Yes I remember plenty of Mk2 Cortinas, Mk1 prefacelift Capris in Dragoon red! Going by the age of your Mex, Sunset appears to be correct, but production ended for the twin cams in 1970? and sunset was introduced in 1971, so that means no twincams were built in Sunset, unless anybody definately knows different! Dragoon red was quite dull and I'm sure many escorts were eventually resprayed in Sunset because it was a very attractive new red!

I'm sure Mexico mark can clear that up.. Mines a 70 car so it's right for the year at least.. But the taggs say sunset, so not sure why unless they've been changed

Just not at ease with this Louie! Ford introduced a load of bright new colours in 71 in line for when they gave the Escorts a bit of a face lift, and Sunset was one of them! We need to get some more accurate info for you to be sure!

The cars been rallied most of its days so I guess if the plates wrong then it could of had a new one following an off etc..

OK, checked with the owner of the French TC and it is Sunset, his research says Sunset was introduced in Aug 70 and his car is a 71. That tallies with my recollection as my original Mex (not the one in my sig) was a Dec 70 build and that was definitely Sunset but the early slightly lighter shade.

I am guessing therefore that these Sunset TC's are the last of the line and later than Aug 70 ?, I can't quite see in the photo but the other English one is on a K plate. Not sure about the Manx one as I don't know how the VRM's work.

How old is yours Louie ?

the K plate car, is KAN422K, I owned this back in the early eighties, Now owned by Brent Mould, It was registered August 1971, I think it was built around April the same year, so it would have been one of the last built, and it was definitely Sunset red

My cars on a j plate, so I'm guessing to be period etc etc that the tagg is correct to say sunset?? And not been changed in time

Louie, a J plate would be post Aug 1970 so yes Sunset is correct. The paint code would be "J" for the early one and "J (shade 10)" for the later one.
