Hi Iain, It's not just painting the outside, it's a total stripdown and painting inside too. Nothing looks worse than removing a piece of the car and finding the previous colour underneath. Originally I was looking for a white RS and I ended up with a red one instead. When I got my car restored I did consider changing it from venetian to white. I decided against it as there was enough work and money being spent on it as it was. Having said that, when I see a white one I look with a little bit of envy, although I do like my red one, the white one is still in my heart! If you really fancy a yellow one, then I would do it as long as it's done right! My first RS2 was Signal Yellow and I loved it. It showed up the black nicely too. Ideally bare metal it so the previous colour will never show up again! Who cares, it's your car and your keeping it!

If you're not going to sell it it don't matter then does it

But if you did change the colour and wanted to sell it I'll put a generous offer in now of £750 due to it being pretty much worthless....And can you drop it off at the Heliport in Aberdeen with a full tank of petrol pls. Serousy in the market today I can't see it being worth any less, due to supply and demand for good cars.

        Taking a pragmatic approach:-

Now the first Mk2's are just about the right side of 40 how much of any car is Factory original? How many have been repainted once or more since being built? It does not matter to me if someone wants a complete colour change or original colour its been repainted anyway, and becomes part of the cars history anyway.

And that brings me onto the 'Ship of Theseus' theory and that really needs a thread of its own...

If you can live with the fact that someone will constantly be looking at the vin plate to check the paint code ........ then go ahead ..........

Remember it's best to keep the glass in so you get that authentic overspray look on the edge of the rubbers

I really feel sorry for those people.....Honest I do.......! Why can they just not just be pleased for the owner of the car, who has taken it out for others too enjoy it too. It must be some form of insecurity.....

I appreciate the concours people putting in hours restoring and chasing parts they always impress me for the dedication they put into their cars and they have to be spot on.

But its the 'know all' experts that like to pick petty holes and nit pick someone elses pride and joy.....This is not limited to our Escorts of course but all classic cars, if I don't like something I move on. Of course in the interests of a balanced post there are some owners who are complete knobs as well.
