  • Registration question

Insured etc, how long can a German registered car be driven in England before it's illegal?? Or the fact I've bought it and it's in the country, does that make it illegal anyway???

    Cheers in advance

Are you sure ? ...if you're a UK resident and going to be living in the UK, I was told many years ago,..... I could use it for a few weeks, then have to register it correctly.

If your here from outside the UK, you then had a few months, as long as you was taking the Vehicle back out the UK.

This was a few years ago, before EU regulations came into force with avengence.
But saying that I've seen cars running around here on none UK plates for years

Knowing the fondness of the threat of having cars taken away and crushed I'd say contact the authorities and confirm.

I live in Australia currently and going back to England in April..
Got German car and wanted to run it down to the rs show at Santa pod while I'm home, catch up with mates etc..
The car will be re registered etc but won't have chance between getting home etc..

Might see if I can borrow a set of trade plates... Or take the xr2

couple of years ago i heard they now do number plate recognition at every port of entry to the uk, then you have 6 months, if they find the car being used on uk roads after that, they seize it and crush it!
