  • for those that know my car

I posted a few weeks ago about taking the car off the road after national day and giving it a full resto.

Never was i thinking it was ever going to be anything like ders mk2 (now that would just be crazy...lol) , but i just want it looking good and the bits on the body sorting .

Then i decided **** it for the time being i will do it in a few years and just get it a bit quicker for now .

But today whilst in the garage looking over the car after the track day at dono last week , i noticed a few more things im not happy with about the car , so im undecided again as to where i want to go with the car

Do you think it is worth just having the outside painted all over and nothing else ? Or would you lot go that bit further and have the door shuts etc done or go full strip down to a shell and go from there with a full resto

If you owned my car what would you do ?

Depends on money and time Gaz.
I personally wouldn't just have the outside painted with out going back to the shell... Or at least scraping all the underside and inner wings, taking the carpet up and checking for any signs of rust. There is no point in having the top painted if the underneath is rusty.
Your car dont look that bad. Does it really need anything doing?
Make it go faster mate if the shell is solid... Fun Time!

dulux up to the filler ....FPMSL @that

Ive had the car stripped down before and the shell does seem quite solid , apart from the wing rails , a 10p piece size hole in the tank well , and the hole where the jack went through the floor .

just not happy with the paint on the body , but im thinking if i have that painted i might as well go the whole way and bare metal the shell and do it properly

Get the hole in the floor done Have a good look round it underneath etc. Get the wing rails done, spray it then enjoy it for what it is. If you go the whole hog then you'll never dare use it. I cry when mine even has a sniff of the rain!!!!!! You enjoyed your track experience last weekend, If you want to do more track days, Don't do too much to it as you'll cry!!!!!!! Make it go faster and thrash Dave on the next track day

                Hi Gaz,

I don't think I have seen your car in the flesh but it looks ok in your photos and all the people who know your car say it is solid etc..

It all depends on what you want from your car, you obviosly have an issue with the paint from reading your post so I would get all the nigly bits done to your satisfaction and enjoy it as Frosticles said.

good luck whatever you decide :thumbleft:

There is a line that you are about to cross Gaz.

The line between a car you will use whatever the weather, and one that stays locked up except for one or two sunny days and a few shows.

                  Only you can decide !

As for track days, after my spin dryer impersonation I won't be sinking ££££££££'s into another Mk2 for track days. Mr Custom has it spot on with the "Jap's eye" (it just needs a cage - hint hint )
                  Cheers Rob.

GAZ, save the full paint for another day, as your car is white, it should be easy to get areas you are unhappy with painted sucessfully, its not like its metallic. if you go the whole hog, you wont use it, i would say a car needs to get really bad as in consecutive MOT fails for welding etc before a nut and bolt rebuild are required. keep it on the road.
