  • Paint Job

What have you chaps paid for a quality paint job on your pride and joy?

What sort of money does paint cost per litre these days?

The last time I priced up paint (which was a very long time ago now) it was £30 a litre for good quality (base/solid colour) 2K paint; from Brown Brothers. I assume in the intervening period the price has risen somewhat?

There is a large variation in the price of the clear coat if you are going the base and clear route.

The colour I will need is a solid colour and shouldn't really need a clear coat finish.

Yes,we repainted my Mexico with standox high solids as I personally prefer the finish on an old motor.

Try glasurit 68 line mate.. I pay about £30 a litre for it but price could be more to someone not in trade.. quality is as good as it get mate trust me I work for BMW in bodyshop and BMW recommends glasurit.. we can only use base and clear but all lads buy 68 line whenever we are painting anything for are selfs..

No Grum, he's saying it was painted in two pack, those in the know abbreviate it to 2k

Alan finds two pack very reasonable

And there was me thinking that he meant that his respray cost him £2,000

Anyway I'm respraying my daughter's Mk1 in Cellulose Monza Blue at the moment. I used about 6 Litres of Etch Primer at @ £15/Litre then 12 litres of High Solids primer at £17.50/Litre and then 12 Litres of Cellulose Top Coat at £20/Litre which is about 500 quid in paint alone - of course that's a complete car inside and out and underneath. And then there's all the other stuff I had to buy but with a good paint job it's really the cost of time that's the biggest end of the bill.

                        All the best, Neil. .
