    I agree. A true enthusiast buys an Escort because of the love for his car and not for what it's going to be worth, someone that is more interesting to chat to in my view!

      I have turned down totaly crazy money for my mk2 , I wont sell it for any amount , at the same time i couldnt care less if values dropped and it was worth sod all as i still wont sell it , so its value is irrelevant

          ive seen this been done with camaro's in america, the shell comes in bits n assembelled on jigs, new shells would cost upwards of 10k....i dont think the price of the shell would be affordable to alot of folk....it would be nice to get a complete shell inc doors, bonnet, bootlid for 10k....it would save alot of messing about repairing rot n other peoples bad work....would be a nice idea but id say ford would stop that right away but then again they are making mustangs

            Can someone show me some evidence that prices would drop?? Has this happened with any of the other cars that new shells have been available for? Does it devalue honest original cars? Haven't seen i happen to MGB's Mini's E types, Astons etc

            If anything the ability to rebuild a rotten, beyond repair complete cars would push prices up as they could actually LEGALLY be reshelled.

              MGB'S cant drop cos they are worth nowt i know as i have one fully restored 16 years ago then left in a garage for 16 years cant get a grand for it even has pictures of the resto with it

                MG's are on the up, gt sold this year for 7k bloke came and paid full asking price, and a chrome bumper midget just went for 11.5k

                  You can now build an exact copy of a ww2 willys or ford jeep as everthing is available to build from scratch .
                  The only things that aren't remade are engine blocks, g, box/ transfer box casings and axle casings.
                  Prices for these jeeps are usually the same as a restored wartime jeep because
                  The people that build them try to pass them off as a rebuilt ww2 jeep when in fact they are built from parts Copys.
                  If i was rebuilding a rotten escort and new shells were available . Then why would I plough money into a rotten shell when a nice new rot free was available.

                  I am currently rebuilding my 1943 ford jeep and have restored the original body tub for a 1/3 of the price of a repro tub ..had it been to far gone then a repro one would have been fitted.

                    the other side of all this is, the more desirable the car, the more its worth, and that's always the case. if they have no value then instead of repair they get scrapped. we repair auto & pre select gearboxes for classic cars. if we quote for a rolls or aston they have it done, if its a Daimler or triumph etc. the car value means it will sit gathering dust or be scrapped. unfortunately that's the reality in my experience.
