But would not mind a nice one again, it would have to be a Ghia, Goldcrest or Linnet.

Three good choices, plenty of nice Ghias out there but the Goldcrest and Linnet are pretty much all gone now sadly.

I've always loved all MKII's (and MKI's) I don't mind if it's 2 door, 4 door, estate or van. About ten years ago there seemed to be this 2 door versus 4 door thing going on but that's all over now. If it's for rallying then yes it's got to be 2 door really but as a classic car the 4 door is great, mind you these are no longer cheap and are snapping at the heels of the 2 doors now.

i enjoy using mine, its alot easier to have fun in a 4 door i think, plus - you cant tell when your driving it on a stage there is an extra pair of door behind you

well i think if you dont have a huge budget to buy and maintain and use a 2 dr fully, you have have the very same fun in a 4dr for an 8th of the price. no brainer in my opinion if funds are tight and you want to compete in an escort!
