No but we have the best primary school in the country and the local secondary school, is in top ten in the country so no point for us.

Longer holidays and loads of money.

If your local schools aren't up to standard and you have no choice, then it's a matter of visiting each contender and you assessing which fits your childs needs.

We looked at the travelling involved and it just wasn't an option, but my children are grown up now and from experience I realise a child will perform at any school if he/she has it in them and the parents backing.

I agree, no need for private schools , if kids want to work hard and parents back them then state schools are good enough. Our twin lads went to
Local secondary high and both are aircraft technicians in the RAF , doing very well.
Why have kids n ship em off to private school?? Only one answer for me , snobbery!!!
Live to regret ..or regret to live.

Look at the school league tables and you'll see that private schools generally do better than there state counter parts.
I know some 'well to do' parents may see it as snobbery but there are also those parents who work extremely hard and make a lot of sacrifices in order to put their kids through a private education to enable them to maximize their potential.
If you want your child to receive the very best in education and you have the means to support them it is potentially one of the best things you can do for them.
It's increasing hard for young people to do well once they leave the education system so anything you can do to help them along the way has got to be beneficial.

                  PS
                  I am not a snob
                  I am not wealthy
I am not a private school teacher
Please please please can I be in the 'Clique'

If they need that extra shove and attention and many do,then I am sure that a paid education is a good thing.

If the child is willing to learn and has the aptitude then state education can be as good as private education.

No matter how much you spend on the school if the child isn't interested in self progression and learning it will be a waste of money.

Another option is to pay for out of school tutoring on specific subjects that will benefit their future
                        Cheers
