We will agree to disagree, but the RS500 is probably the 2nd most important Ford Race Car after the GT40.

As for the 911, history shows that it has survived 50 years and is still winning races worldwide. I think the below says it all

The rs500 is an icon with race results ( as in the amount of wins for races entered ) that beats any other car ever built

A fact you cant take away form it

Hence why values of race rs500s are now in hundreds of thousands , and top end road cars are getting offer of £100, 000

And i dont need to agree to disagree as its a fact not how i see it , just simple fact

          Yes mate

you can only count a cars success against cars in the same class

          Ie , group A / group c etc etc

The group A was dominated by the rs500 untill it was outlawed by the compatition in 1991

              • Don't confuse Group A with Class A with in the BTCC at the time.

Group A referred to a set of regulations providing production-derived vehicles for competition.
Group A was introduced by the FIA in 1982 to replace the outgoing Group 2 as "modified touring cars", while Group N would replace Group 1 as "standard touring cars".
Up to 1991, the requirement was a minimum of 5000 cars in one year, but the FIA allowed "Evolution" models to be homologated with a minimum of 500 cars. hence the RS 500.

The championship was at run with a mix of classes, divided according to engine capacity, racing simultaneously, the Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500s were in Class A, the BMW M3 were in Class B and the likes of the Vauxhall Astra GTE in Class C, there was also Classes D and E.

                    A Star for Steven f

944 Turbo was at its time unbeatable on track due to the near 50:50 weight distribution and still competes well now if a little low on modern day power

                    • So in the last two years of that formula, the fastest and most evolved car basically raced itself for overall victories, save for a lone Maserati biturbo !!! ...... hardly the best argument it was the greatest winner !!! ......... like saying a one make Seat Leon Cup car winning the Seat Leon cup is the best car ?????

                      • I think however we are comparing apples and oranges, Martin was describing mainstream factory built and dealer sold road cars not bare shell motorsport built race cars that possibly shared few standard parts with the RS500 sitting in the showroom. Over the seasons how many mods did Mountune, eggenberger etc carry out, its all well documented, they didn't pick it up from the main dealer forecourt and stick it on the grid.

Mercedes’ original plan when designing the 190E was to take it rallying. Audi, however, also had plans for rallying, and when their turbocharged all-wheel-drive Quattro landed on the scene plans were changed and the 190E ...

I'am thinking about one these for historic rally if the pre 1987 class comes in.
