The "rear ending" thing was bad enough but I predict it won't be long before there is a case of serious head injury or death with this method.
Being T-boned in the drivers door - not good.
Even if they aim for the front or rear of the car a side impact of any kind is not good.

In the highway code it says you never wave pedestrians on or drivers in other vehicles, you also shouldn't flash your headlights to imply your giving way. This rule is to stop people causing accidents, i.e. waving someone on and another vehicle else knocks them down.
I try not to wave people on or flash my lights to "cede" my right of way as it can end in disaster, this is just another reason to be careful with such behaviour.
