I'll chip in with mine... was 'only' a 3.8 S but I absolutely loved it!!! Ultra-reliable except for a split hose that ended up costing over £1,000 to sort out, but as has been said, high-costs come with the territory. You don't buy a used M3 for the price of new Mondeo and expect to run it for Ford costs...

Parts prices fluctuate like crazy too - I had one part costing over £1000 one day, then just over £600 the following. Luckily I bought mine on the later day. The specialist who looked after mine said the newer models are built cheaper, despite being dearer...

e.g. I had a split coolant pipe. A rubber hose with push-fit stainless steel connectors at each end. One end goes into the rad, the other into a solid pipe that runs from the rad at the front to the engine at the back. Both of which are alloy, so the stainless connectors had chemically reacted with them and bonded in, meaning they all needed replacing. And the other radiator was weeping a little so for peace of mind I had to do the same for that side of the car.

Anyway, out of the frying pan into the fire... I swapped it a month back for this... it's about 70% Volvo so should at least be safe

Unfortunately the Mk1's haven't had a look in since!

Yes sod the new stuff . Old skool 911 looks better , drives better and is just better , lol . Plus parts are cheaper and they don't go wrong anyway . Mine's not seen a spanner for 5 years and even then it only cost 80 quid for new discs and pads from the local motor factors !!! Cheaper to run than a fiesta .

        and it's free tax .
sigpic 2.1 ATMO YB POWER .
Tick tock goes the clock and the clock don't lie .
12.4sec to 109mph With NO turbo , NO gay trailer , NO slicks , NO gas , NO race fuel and NO bits missing . Beat that !!!!

My 2.4t is tax exempt drives nicer than the Escort (but not as fast) and costs bugger to run
Plus you can park it somewhere and it won't get nicked
