    On 3 July 1938, A4 class locomotive Mallard raced down Stoke Bank at 126mph to set a new steam locomotive world speed record. That record still stands.

          I was lucky enough to see Bittern on Saturday just south of York it was fair tramping on, it was followed 30 mins later by a bit of proper LMS metal, 6233 Duchess of Sutherland.

            The A4 was 10 and minutes early and I was having a slash in the hedge and didn't have my camera ready.
