I took part in the filming of it, just a back ground extra with one of my ww2 military vehicles. The town scenes were filmed at hatfield bucks, it was great but to keep retaking a scene got a bit tiring .
Can't believe it was so long ago that the film was made. It was this film that led to Band of brothers..again I was involved and got to meet the real BOB veterans ..what an experience to listen to them talk of their time in europe..
Live to regret ..or regret to live.

The band of brothers research was already well under way before private Ryan was made...
Spielberg met dick winters at a airborne reunion I the early 90's and couldn't get the funding to make anything then, hence the Ryan film to raise awareness in the subject and funds to make the series!

As I said SPR led to BOB, I just didn't explain it Propely , . SPR was based on a true stoy of four brothers called the nyland brothers, 3 of whoum were killed during ww2. Dick winters died January 2012..

I thought the 3 of them were navy and served on the same ship - may be confused

3 of them were in the army(2 been paratroopers) the fourth was in the air force and went missing over japan (pow) but believed dead at the Time..
Fitz nyland was thought to be the only one that survived then the brother who had been a pow , went home..
