1979 Mini ,driving Instructors then used my own MK1 Mini Cooper with an 850 engine could do 12 miles between head gasket changes wasn't till 6 years later when bored (I had scrapped the car 5 years earlier and stripped it ) I took the engine apart and found the paddles had rotted off the water pump
