The cheaper ones that use mobile phone sim cards are quite good and easy to hide away .......

Good idea. Although you can program them to tell you if the vehicle moves more then 0.1km from a set location, ie your garage, so you should know about it a long time before it leaves these shores.
Once you know it's moved you can track it yourself. It will give you the land mark location, direction of travel, speed date and time. It will also give you geographical coordinates so you can pin point it on google earth.

I've used a few and the personal ones are alot better now than the call centre to police based ones so get one of those .
That way if it gets pinched you can get your own posse together for recovery as Plod won't bother usually . Get the self contained one with 90 day battery life as reports back to any pc or phone with GPS location and has built in microphone etc . Even has fuel cut off etc via text message .
sigpic 2.1 ATMO YB POWER .
Tick tock goes the clock and the clock don't lie .
12.4sec to 109mph With NO turbo , NO gay trailer , NO slicks , NO gas , NO race fuel and NO bits missing . Beat that !!!!

My question would be how difficult would it be for someone, or a group of people, to find one of these in a Escort?.

Not so many places to hide it once you have taken out the seats and trim which doesn't really take too long.

You can get very small ones but the smaller they are the less time the standby battery lasts . No good hard wiring them in only as thieving scum will take the car battery out first .
Hide them under things that take a while to get out and use security bolts in everything too slow them down looking for it . Fit two as then if they find one they think they are safe (until 20 mates with bats turn up) lol

We could even have a forum section just for the live tracking of stolen cars . That way a country wide recovery posse could be arranged very quickly and no escape for the scum bangs then .

I got one of these fitted to my truck a couple of weeks ago i ask my transport manger how much they cost i'm sure he said about £250 to buy and £120 a year to run so they can just go on to their computer to check where we are at anytime they like, It was a small thin black box with about six wires and something like two wire aerial's

I have one of these fitted in mine, http://www.personalgpstrackers.co.uk/ and I am deffo impressed with it, this particular one was recommended as it also works indoors, some trackers lose the signal in garages etc, but this one deffo still works .
Can set a geo field up, so if the car leaves that area you get a text alert, can also set it for speed alert, movement alert, etc you can set it so you can even listen in, so if the car has the thieves in it and they are talking and calling each other by name, your going to know their names lol. Mine has the 7 day battery back up so if its disconnected from the car battery I have 7 days to find it. Also works via live tracking via any computer, deffo gives piece of mind, really happy I got it. Mine is hidden in the ********* lol, now you know I cant tell you that bit ,

If you want it, get it, before someone else beats you to it.
