I honestly believe if these fires were down to just efernol.... Sorry ethanol () we would be seeing a lot more cases.
When mine was in the garage last week I spoke at length to the owners and mechanics. They really weren't that concerned about it. Tipton garage deal with a lot of classic cars/ classic race cars and it wasn't until I said change the flexy pipes because they're 40 years old did they agree it was a good idea.
My float needle valve rubber perrished and that was new my car was pi--ing out fuel yesterday spoke to weber man and he was very worried he said the fuel was causing a lot of damage rotting tanks, rubbers fuel pumps ect I DONT THINK THE EU WANT CLASSIC CARS ON THE ROAD problem is what can we do about it
My wife and I were in the car when the fire started and we were fine thanks.
The flexi pipes from the fuel pump to the carbs were replaced last year with ethanol compatible pipe, but the flames were first spotted by a car next to us under the car so we believe it was a problem with the pipe that goes from the tank to the fuel pump, or the rubber joiner, that was the cause. I guess we will never know for sure.
