A mate of mine bought a white Mk1 one owner Mex about 10-12 years ago from an old boy near London, totally untouched.

He didn't touch it, apart from ripping out the engine and putting in a tuned x-flow. About 5 years later he sold it on, and put the old engine back in.

It was nothing unusual to find a five year old Mk1 with a bit of rot in it, a mark 1 would be very lucky not to have had any panels replaced on it by now! Front wings and bottoms of the doors were often the first to go.
