  • A future classic?

My old man has an Escort Serenade, 1997 mk6?, he had it since new.
Anyway, it failed its mot on corrosion on rear susp mounts, rear sills, and needed a new clutch.
Apart from that its immaculate. 40,000 miles, spare never been on the road, always serviced at Ford dealer he bought it from
They advised him its not worth the cost of repairing, so he's buying a little Fiesta run around, nothing fancy as he wants to hang his keys up in a while ( he's 79) He was gutted about his Escort, as he loves the old car, so rather than it being crushed, Im storing it down my works units, till one day it will be put back on the road. I think it will be a classic in 20 years or so, after all isnt this how classic were saved?
    What do you all think?

    You're right.
If you have the space to store it and all the history/paperwork for it than keep it. After all it isn't costing anything, is it?
The one down side is that modern cars will probably not be loved as much as Mk1's and Mk2's (and some Mk3's). Still worth saving though.

That's what I thought. It will never be in a mk1, 2 or even 3 calibre. But I think in, say 20 years or so, people would like to see them at classic shows. It is the last of the escorts after all!

        Good man.

Pump the tyres up to at least 3 bar to save flatspotting them.

I'd fix it just now so your not struggling for parts in the years to come

I recently worked on a cavalier mk2 and thought the fella was joking at the price of spares ,when did you last see one ? And it wasn't that lo g ago that they were all over the place

The Mk VI Mex would be the real classic, if it wasn't just a "badge job" .
