  • Buying an Imported Escort?

Just wondering what is the deal with buying an imported escort? I have noticed that a company is selling them on ebay at the moment but what are the pitfalls if any to owning an import? What about registration and so forth?
    Cheers Chris

bought a french car last year bloke selling it said it would only cost 55 quid to register it went to dvla office for the form the car has to be taxed and tested over here so that means insuring it as well
    test 35
    tax 75 6 months
    register form 55
    insurance ? traders policy
a lot dearer than was in the advert
then had to have it inspected to confirm identity got a reg for it 2 weeks later so had some nice old type plates made 45 quid then had a letter saying they had issued wrong registration to car not very happy and no refund either for there mistake regarding plates

Have a look at the DVLA web site it's all on there. Don't think it's much of an ordeal. Seems you just need to make it UK legal as with any car, get it inspected and then register it.

VW boys have been at it for years without Any real difficulty.

I dare say you'll be advised to just buy an eBay logbook but don't be daft surely it's best to do things properly and legally.

Steps you must follow when importing vehicles into the UK, including making an import declaration, paying VAT and duty and telling HMRC using the NOVA service.

Thanks for the info guys.now what about the car itself? I here talk that some imported cars are different to the UK spec cars like stronger chassis? Is this true and are there any Other differences at all?

just be careful with some of the south African ones as everything there is recycled 100 times before it's binned and there are some horrors making it over here.

                imports

We bring all ours in from Oz as spare parts, the shells may be good but most are no where near the uk mot, worn bushs/tca;s etc.

Thats why most of the south african imports are rebuild first.

I (with enormous help from a great friend in Australia) imported a car a couple of years ago, the worst part was registering it, but if you have a registration document from source, the relevant forms to prove the tax and duties have been paid and a current mot and insurance. It's not the end of the world to register. Any advice you want pm me for my number.
