            v5

my understanding was that if a car hasnt been taxed since 1998 it doesnt need sorn
just checked online mine was last taxed 1996 a bit longer thani thought
it states on dvla site that my car is unlicenced
maybe thats why i havnt recieved a new book
            cheers

The ones that are 'unused' at the mo are the very last ones that DVLA will change. I have a couple of bikes that haven't been used in a while and are still on blue.
I am sure if you ask them they will change it to a new one. If not, just change a minor detail on the book and send it in to DVLA. The replacement they send will be red. Then, change the minor detail back again. job done.

Any v5 going back 20 years or more will produce a new document when a new owner is recorded or the car is taxed,so don't worry.

If the car hasn’t been taxed since 1998 and doesn’t qualify for sorn you wont be sent an automatic new V5 until the car is next taxed or as perversely said a logbook update like a colour change is made.

It used to be stated on DVLA website that all Blue V5's will be replaced with Red ones by the end of Nov 2012

No date is stated on their site anymore
