Recently restored a 1959 mini and before i started i ordered a heritage certificate which gives all the info on the car from when it left the factory ie colour, engine number, trim colour and options fitted etc. Had similair thing when did lambretta's. Was wondering if there is anything similair for fords???

Also while im gabbin on . Heritage make new bodyshells for minis and for just over 3 grand also mgb's etc . With the demand for escort shells i cant understand why this hasnt been done especially as could ask the price of a cheap new car . Must be easier and more cost effective than designing producing ,type approving etc . And why did companies produce mk1 escort wings and sell for not a lot a lot but not make the rs wings which could of asked three times the price. Someone probably does now but remember looking ten years ago when had my mk1

Mr Ford isn't especially proud of old products (unlessthe name is cynically used to flog new models, see RS 2000 or the MkV Escort) Mexico and as for trying to keep old models on the road, like Mercedes-Benz does, no chance I'm afraid.

For as long as I can remember Ford has always said, "we've passed on all the production data onto enthusiasts clubs". If they have, somebody must be sat on it cos it doesn't get into the public domain.

Given the fact that Ford are closing factories left, right and centre, it's a surprise they don't use some of that spare capacity to turn out panels and parts for the "enthusiasts" but there (as there's enough money to be made), as I said, that's old uncle Henry for you I'm afraid. Today's newpapers are tomorrow's chip wrappers...

Don't think ford has anything like bmc heritage certificates have to decode options from build plate. There are threads about trying to get shells remade but finance seems to be the problem. Panel situation seems to be improving we can get new inner guards and complete floors to heel board now. If lower bulkhead rear wheel tubs and 1/4 panels and boot floor become available most cars should be restorable to a good standard

German companies seem to have it right. Also in the air cooled world there are some really good reproduction panels being produced by a couple of dedicated independant companies.

Not far away from being able to build a complete brandnew early pre '55 (Barndoor) splitscreen shell now.

I suppose the huge US market isn't there for the poor old Escort.

Since buying another 944 and bringing it up to a very good standard I have bought most of my parts from my local Porsche main dealer. Very friendly service, all the parts diagrams are online so you can quote the part numbers you want and the prices are really good.

Availability of genuine stuff is very good, one of the 944's weak areas for rust is the outer sills (even though galvanised), for a short while only one side has been available new but Porsche have just stated they are going to produce a new batch for the other side, this car went out of production in 91, over 20 years ago.

BMW have got it right with their classic parts division, they even built a brand new 2002tii out of stock items for their museum

I'm afraid Ford as a global company have no interest in their old models and certainly no interest in remanufacturing old parts.

                Cheers
