When I enquired to DVLA about a couple of possible plates for my TR7 they listed them free of charge, they will only list one requested plate per auction though.
Does it say anything on DVLA's site about a charge to list a platesigpic

I think Paul is correct the DVLA will list a requested plate for free
It was National Numbers that took me for £300 + Vat
It wasent until I paid then I found out you can do this yourself
What hive the price up also is price of your bid + the sellers commission + hammer price commission all plus Vat
As I said I went to 1100 and then it sold at 1120sigpic
Back with a MK1

Yes, just ring the DVLA and ask about the number you are after. My LVX number, LVX942M, was never issued by the DVLA. I think the others in the sequence wern't either. GVX883M wasn't released either as I asked about this aswell.
You register your interest in the number and they text you when its up for auction.

As said, DVLA will happily list a plate for you and let you know when it's up for auction, I was chasing plates similar to BL works cars for the TR7V8, hardest part is finding out what hasn't already been issued back in the day.
Auction hammer price is never the full story, the chancellor always likes his bit on top plus fee's.
