    Anyone booking a hire car in Spain or Italy please be aware of this company !I hired a car through A agent an on arrival it was Goldcar,when I refused over £150 of add ons ,still full tank cost me £120 ,no refund on return ,the girl at desk got really nasty ,and abusive.On examination of car before leaving car was damaged on front valence.Now 6 months after rental they have taken 2payments on my card for 35 euros each ,1 for traffic regulation 1 fo non payment of toll No notice from Italian Police ,but bank says they can do that as when you sign when picking up car ,it allows then to add any charges they want at later dates ! Please be aware of this company and avoid using them

      just been on there web site to book a car for easter at girona my reguler company just gone down so will give them a miss thanks

        All car hire companies in Europe work the same way, Goldcar are no different. It's how you get the business - cheap initial costs then charge for full tank of fuel on the basis of "get it full and return it empty". Sometimes if you hire for less than 3 days they will allow a ful/full arrangement.When I hire a car in Spain it's often them but my mate who lives there permanently always ends up with a full tank of fuel in his car when I leave
        If the car is damaged when you get it be sure to take dated photos before you leave and if at all possible make sure they see you doing it, and poiunt out the damage to them as well. Usually you sign the hire agreement without actually seeing the car so don't get the chance to mark damage on the sheet. This suits the hire company for obvious reasons.
        As for the add-ons, your own policy may cover the comprehensive type extra insurannce they charge so much for that you don't need. Check it before you leave home. The others are usually damage to tyres and/or glass - in most cases not necessary unless you're very unlucky or drive like an asshole. In all cases it's cheaper to replace the damaged tyre/fix the puncture yourself before returning the car.
        If you didn't pay the toll then they reserve the right to recover it from your card because otherwise they will have to pay it themselves.
        I have hired from Goldcar in Spain at least once and sometimes three times a year and (touch wood) have had no problems with them.
        I find that if you leave a few Euro in the car when you're leaving it back it goes down very well.

          They are charging the 35 euro for their own services in supplying the Police and any body else who needs it with the renters name etc ,so they are not paying the server of the fines the money!
          What reason does the clerk at the desk have for getting nasty when you don't take all the add ons? Because that's how she earns her wage!
          Talked to a guy who,s sister worked at Orlando airport hire car desk ,she earned easily over 1000 dollars every week as he said " For selling unessessary insurance to Brits hiring cars"

            well to be fair there is a cost to the administration involved, whether or not it's €35 is another discussion.
            There is no reason for the clerk to get nasty, sometimes people are just in a shite mood - it happens. Maybe you both were lol?
