Anorak 'please define'

I have seen the term used on this and other boards, but i don't really know what it means.
It seems to be used as a negative slur for a know it all (at least that what i get)
Please clarify for us yanks

You're not a million miles away but it's not really such a negative slur as the true anoraks don't seem to mind the tag, they just love people to think they know it all!

I guess you may call them a car geeks in the US.

It's a sad bastard with an excessive disorder towards some hobby . Like a person cleaning the tread in their tyres and searching the country for a part with the correct sticker on it .
