  • Fast and Furious Escorts

Talking to the bloke who built the Mk1 Escorts for the new film last night, 6 were built in total and out of that 3 were destroyed. Surprisingly all of them were decent cars and from the pics and vids on his phone, were very nicely prepped. Believe it or not, they ran Vauxhall redtops!

I read your thread on it, the video on YouTube of a smashed blue with white stripe car on the back of a transporter is one of them. He showed us the jump on his phone that killed it! They got it a bit wrong and it just flipped straight over nose to tail. All the cars are blue with the white stripe and gold minilites wheels. The stunt drivers loved them!

They were all dry sumped so no Mantas were harmed in the making of the film Unsure what they did with any running gear they removed, I suppose if they knew what they were doing they would've bought cars with parts they could use so minimal waste - I don't know. He told me of the ones damaged he had put a bid in with the film makers to buy the salvage. I've only met him a couple of times so I doubt he'll share his pictures, if he's even allowed to before the films release? The one jump he showed us was over a central reservation on what looked like a motorway or dual carriageway. I think he said it was Tenerife where it was filmed and where the cars were built. They also had alloy rads in the boot so in one scene the car can push into the back of a mustang. The boot floors were modded to allow an air scoop duct to feed the rad. They had compression struts fitted and other mods. Other cars were the white Mustang and a black Dodge Charger Daytona, he said some of the stunt drivers were trying to get round this very tight hairpin in the yanks and were struggling to get them to slide, where as in the Escorts they were tugging on the handbrake (which were hydraulic) and drifting them round with big grins on their faces!

Yes he said he was there and had his picture with him. Don't know if he was driving or building cars or both? What a gig eh!
