Some day soon I might just do that - "find" it!

Of course I am assuming the car has a logbook and you have registered it in your name

Depends what your definition of a barn find is?
About 4 years ago I was given a "G" plate Mk1 escort for free, provided I removed it from the deceased owners garage where it had been since 1984 still with the clear plastic covers on the seats and fuel in the tank.
About 18 months ago I responded to a local advert for Mk2 escort spares only to discover a Mk2 RS2000 that had been off the road since 1996 and was known to the club that I acquired.
There are still several RS's in the Glasgow area that have not seen the road since the 80's and early 90's in dry garages under 6 inches of dusts and the owners wont part with them!

That is what I was thinking. The government doesn't usually let you get away with very much. After all, they're not demading money, just that you declare the vehicle's status, i.e. off-road or on-road.
It's probably as well to declare that the vehicle is in SORN status and make up a story. Otherwise, you could well get hammered...

Not a barn find but more of a 'garage' find. Got wind myself last year of a car (not an Escort) which had been parked in a garage near Gatwick airport since 1995. Tracked the owner down and to cut a very long story short i ended up as the new owner. And in fairness i got the car at a extremely keen price.
One owner from new, full service history, bill of sale etc etc. Just under 50k mile. Had been off road so long due to the engine having a small problem. It was never replaced in the car but came freshly rebuilt in a crate along with the car. Also got a right few spares like wheels, axles etc etc which were a nice wee bonus.
Am well chuffed with my 'garage' find. Oh i forgot to mention the car in question was an original road going Manta 400.
Cheers
