That's right BJ, it was Russell Henney, still mates with him but he dropped out of the RS scene when he sold his 16i in the early 90's.

Pic below shows Russ (centre with dark brown jacket) , that's a young Ruddy wearing double denim , taken about 1990 at Hopetoun House. Russ had grey 16i, DMX was owned by another Cumbrian lad Chunter, he owned it about 18 year, he now has an ST Focus.

HHH was owned then by my good mate Frenchy, one of the very first RSOC members, he's coming round today to fit some stoneguard decals to my 944.

I think what this shows is all the lads above met via the RSOC, none of us have had RS's for years now but all still good mates 25 years down the road.

My own opinion on the 'scene' , I still admire the cars but I can't see the value in them that some place on them, it's the perceived values and therefore the unwilling less to use the cars that has created the current atmosphere.

I remember going out with £3k in my hand and an Autotrader and having the pick of RS2000's all over the country, when and why did they become £30k+ ??

It perhaps says something when I can no longer afford to buy and run a 30 year old Escort but have recently bought a very low mileage Porsche with full Porsche history, low owners and parts prices for new genuine spares are much cheaper than 30 year old Ford tat on EBay.

      • I totally agree with RUDDY on this one .The cars have become so dear now and parts so expensive that you are scared to drive them incase you or someone damages anything , but we are also to blame for this letting these people /traders etc ,not just making a small profit but making a good living from the average guy . hence now if you still love (FORD) escorts you must pay big money

          • 3K used to get you an A1 car.

The RS was supposed to be the "Working man's performance car" The ordinary "Working man" can no longer afford them.

Lee you should know better than to post statements about other Forum Members that are lies and have not and will not ever happen

nice pics, its hard to except but due to the rot boxs ford made, they got wrote off or rotted away , the amount of cars left has driven the price up, and cost of living, petrol pint and ciggys blimin morgage is cheaper.

                          • Well, as I had been away when this thread was generated, I have only just cast my peepers over it and read it from start to finish.

What an absolute load of negativity ! After reading it, I feel like selling up and taking up another hobby

In fact.....no I don't....I won't be dragged down as life is way too short to be miserable Let's face it.....we are all here because deep down we love old Ford stuff from 40 years ago ! It should not have anything to do with an RS badge, as Transits and Anglia's etc didn't have that and we love those too !

A few quotes I have remembered mention simply going out and enjoying days out with friends.... and Tim also mentioned the lack of people with a bit of get up and go in arranging things. Well, if you are not prepared to try and get involved, then don't whinge.

There have been many events arranged over the years whereby many whingers have not even expressed an interest to attend so it is their loss. You only get out of it what you put into it.

So, please remember....life is very short. Crack on and enjoy what you have got.

On that note......I only found this thread as I did a search on Oulton Park........and the below shows that it can be done, and can be enjoyed (However, it appears that there will not be one this year but one is planned in 2014 )

The Snowdonia Tour is still on for end of August if anyone fancies it

Also, if someone wants to arrange an RSE stand at the brilliant Tatton Park show, give me a shout as volunteers really need to come out of the woodwork to help get some shows up and running.
