  • Seeing as Pushrod started this !!!!!!!!

I know how long it will take Google to give you the answers so lets see how quick you can answer the following

    Technical General Knowledge Quiz !

Q1. What is measured in "Dwell" ?

Q2. When is an inlet valve at its most open - ATDC or BTDC ?

Q3. What is the formula for cubic capacity ?

Q4. What is "overlap" in reference to a camshaft ?

Q5. What is 1 bar in psi ?

    Q6. In relation to a 175/70 x 13 tyre and a 185/60 x 13 tyre @ 30mph what is the effect on the speedo reading (consider a 175/70 will read 30mph) ?

Q7. Does a brake adjustable bias system increase or decrease brake fluid pressure in relation to the front brakes ?

Q8. Does anti-freeze increase or decrease the boiling point of engine coolant ?

Q9. What is meant by Hydroscopic ?

Q10. Why is a vehicle fitted with a differential unit ?

      Technical General Knowledge Quiz !

Q1. What is measured in "Dwell" ?

      Rotation of cam

Q2. When is an inlet valve at its most open - ATDC or BTDC ?

      ATDC

Q3. What is the formula for cubic capacity ?

      Must be something like :

      PI*(SQR(R))*STROKE

Q4. What is "overlap" in reference to a camshaft ?

When both valves are open for a short duration of time in cycle

Q5. What is 1 bar in psi ?

      15

      Q6. In relation to a 175/70 x 13 tyre and a 185/60 x 13 tyre @ 30mph what is the effect on the speedo reading (consider a 175/70 will read 30mph) ?

There will be a 4.2% difference i.e. If you are actually travelling at 30mph with a 185 tyre on, the speedo will read 31.25mph

Q7. Does a brake adjustable bias system increase or decrease brake fluid pressure in relation to the front brakes ?

It can do either, depends how you have it set

Q8. Does anti-freeze increase or decrease the boiling point of engine coolant ?

      decrease

Q9. What is meant by Hydroscopic ?

      can absorb moisture

Q10. Why is a vehicle fitted with a differential unit ?

Allow two driven wheels to rotate at different speeds

          Technical General Knowledge Quiz !

Q1. What is measured in "Dwell" ?

Time, ie time between tdc and beginning of atdc

Q2. When is an inlet valve at its most open - ATDC or BTDC ?

          atdc

Q3. What is the formula for cubic capacity ?

          Something like .7 or .8 x bore(cm) x bore(cm) x stroke(cm) x no. of pots

Q4. What is "overlap" in reference to a camshaft ?

Duration both valves are slightly open

Q5. What is 1 bar in psi ?

          15 and a bit

          Q6. In relation to a 175/70 x 13 tyre and a 185/60 x 13 tyre @ 30mph what is the effect on the speedo reading (consider a 175/70 will read 30mph) ?

Should be fairly equal.. poss a tad higher.

Q7. Does a brake adjustable bias system increase or decrease brake fluid pressure in relation to the front brakes ?

Pressure should be as is to front, pressure to rear should decrease if set for front bias

Q8. Does anti-freeze increase or decrease the boiling point of engine coolant ?

          Raise

Q9. What is meant by Hydroscopic ?

          Absorbs moisture

Q10. Why is a vehicle fitted with a differential unit ?

Allow both driven wheels to rotate at a different frequency

I thought antifreeze increase the boiling point.

                1 bar = 14.5 psi

He he Dave, you didn't answer Q7. A brake adjustable bias system does increase or decrease brake fluid pressure in relation to the front brakes.

Q10: A diff also allows the front and rear axles to rotate at different speeds - ask a Quattro (or Cosworth 4WD) driver.

A good effort anyway and I liked the idea. How about for the next one "what does castor, camber, and toe-in affect?"
