Where i used to live there was 8 new build houses in a crescent shaped cul de sac..One of the residents had a dogs that they would leave in a large pen in the back garden during the day while they were at work. They received an anonymous letter complaining about the noise from the dog and threating a report to the rspca and taking legal action..btw the dogs were very well looked after and had a good life..The owners of the dogs wrote a letter to all the residents. On the envelope was wording that said an anonymous neighbour had complained and they were about to take legal action against the complainant. It also said that if you had not been the complainant to return the letter unopened to them and that you would be informed of who had returned the other letters.
It was a great bit of psychology that was played.Obviously anybody that didnt have a problem couldn't get the letter back to them quick enough and of course the tables were turned as we all found out who the people that didnt have the bottle to complain in person were..They clearly had a good idea who it was,it just outed them to everyone else.
A couple of months later they moved house...

If it isn't a wind up then it is some spineless tw@t that hasn't got the b0ll0cks to come & address his concerns in the way you use your vehicle.
Not that it has anything to do with him if your vehicle is perfectly road legal.
Just copied the below from here http://www.environmentlaw.org.uk/rte.asp?id=115
First try to resolve any noise-related problems by talking to your neighbour, in a firm but friendly manner. This can save a lot of stress and expense.
It may be possible to arrange for someone to help you resolve a dispute. If your neighbour agrees, an independent third party – a mediator – can help to sort things out. If the noisy neighbour is a tenant, you can make a complaint to the landlord. Most tenancy agreements require tenants not to do anything that would constitute a nuisance to neighbours. The landlord can use the tenancy agreement to deal with the problem if it persists, with eviction as the last resort. Section 144 of the Housing Act 1996 also allows excessive noise nuisance to be possible grounds for eviction.
If informal approaches do not work, you may have to complain to your local council. The environmental health department can investigate your complaint and put a stop to the noise if it is excessive. To help the process, keep a record or log of the problem including the times and duration of the noisy activity.
Local councils have powers to deal with noise from loud music, DIY, barking dogs or other excessive animal noise, car and burglar alarms, deliberate banging or raised voices (where unreasonable). See What Type of Noise? for more details. They do not have powers to deal with noise arising from any reasonable activity, or noise from passers by, for example in the street or through a shared hallway.
So it looks like they don't have a leg to stand on. I'd also include the above in any correspondence to you neighbour.
I don't know of any other limit to noise from an exhaust except for the SVA test. Which is 105db which is LOUD.
The fact you are going about your everday business & not doing doughnuts outside someones house. I'd say you have nothing to worry about.
I'd definetely out the b@stard though as KAS750 suggested. Just make sure you have addressed them so you know who's letters you get back.Mark....

I have a similar neighbour. I am very considerate at home, with parking and noise. We have no kids and are out at work most of the day . I have a retired couple opposite. He has regular rows on the door step with his , thick as f*** son, who then finishes the row by screwing his current shed up the street. On the rare occasion i've had the car running in the garage for say 10 min, he's come to the end of his drive screaming to shut the F***in noise up. The last time he did it he didn't notice i was behind the car on the drive, i gave it him proper style. Told him if i hear him and his son f'in at each other again , well you can imagine the rest. Seems to have worked thoughsigpic

As many say.
A polite letter to everyone saying sorry if upset anyone, but if they would like to have a chat to see what the problem was and how to resolve any issues. Genuine enthusiast of one of this countries most successful cars in motor sport. Say, if no reply then things will carry on in the same manner as can not see any problem.
Just about to move so hope that I have some good neigbours, next.
Regards,
Mark.

Have spoke to all the people in my road and all quite baffled (unlike the exhaust)and a lot say that I have not been too loud or gone on for too long, so it must be someone over the back to me, so lets see how this pans out.
Cheers for the comments
Jay.( not so loud anymore )sigpic
