I'm not sure the customer service element is down at just Ford. I run VW's for daily's and they are just the same there. It's like they either don't want to sell you one or can't be bothered servicing them or dealing with warrenty issue's.
In fact, I ended up taking my T5 to a independant, great service and realistic cost's.
I simply think we outpriced ourselves in this country and are not prepaired to adapt the economic climate. Harder still when the like's of Chinese production lines are churning out cheap parts and Korean manufacturers are actually making viable other options.
My co-driver works for GM, GM europe have not turned a profit for 17 years apparently!! but the UK is holding up the rest of them as the UK is doing well (must be the vans!!)
Pride before the fall and all that.
I hope they can resolve the Transit factory, a great british loss in my mind but there needs to be comprimise from the manufacturer in product cost and production cost. Maybe source the all parts abroad and build here, much the same as Nissan and Toyota? Maybe they do that already?

Ford 'to cut jobs' at two factories
The Southampton factory will close next summer, sources say
Car maker Ford is to close two plants with the loss of at least 1,300 jobs, the BBC understands.
Its Southampton Transit van factory and the stamping plant at Dagenham, Essex, will shut, with union sources saying the job losses could reach 1,500.
Reports suggest the closures will happen next summer.
However, some new posts will be created at the Dagenham engine plant which will build Ford's new Panther engine.

Maybe Mercedes can afford to knock money off their overpriced wares (usually by squeezing their suppliers) but Ford are ending the WRC program and closing factories, not holding out their hands to the national govts.

Ford have made a rod for their own back in many ways with curious/poor model policy, the new Focus isn't available as a 3-door (even in ST guise), for instance, and they make half-baked attempts at "halo" model cars (e.g. the threatened/promised RS). Other car companies are going bananas, Audi, BMW, Mercedes etc are turning out incredibly desirable mass market products, and making money to boot.
Clearly the product planners and accountants have misjudged their market, couple that to over capacity and a worldwide recession and you can see why Ford are currently looking pretty sick.
A great idea would be for Jaguar-Land Rover to take over the Southampton plant for production of new models like the F-Type or the Evoque.
I think, Ford are making a mistake by ending vehicle production in the UK, what with the questionable value-for-money of the current models and resentment that will be created by factory closures, they could be killing off demand in one of their most important markets when they need it most...

I read that although the production of the Transit in Southampton is to close, all the new Transits will now be built in TURKEY !!
The guy in Australia has not told us how expensive vehicles are there,as when I was there this year new cars were very expensive! My daughter has a Toyota Kluger 2003 model ,so its 9 years old and she paid more than i would dream of doing .Story is Julia Gillard is going to open the doors and let them all in like Blair did here !!!
