    Yes it's a genuine MK2 Mexico.

But we also used 1600 Sports.

This was once a Silver Harrier it's still had the remote mirror.

    And RS2000's.

The simple answer is there are a lot less mk2 mexico's around than there are mk1 mexico's and mk2 rs2000s.
I know its not 100% reliable, but howmanyleft.co.uk is a good indicator of how many of a certain car there is about.
Searching Escort Mexico showed there are currently 687 mk1 mexico's licenced and 378 SORN (thats over 1000 total).
Compare that to the MK2 mexico which is showing 43 licenced and 68 SORN (111 total) roughly equates to about 10 times rarer than the mk1.

I couldnt work out which was mk1 rs2000 and which was mk2 rs2000, but the numbers are 211 licenced 193 SORN, and 390 licenced 640 SORN (i'm guessing the latter is the mk2)

This boggles down to the fact that the mk2 mexico, when it was released, was actually shit. It was a niche that never needed to be filled. If you wanted performance on a budget, you had the 1300/1600 sport. If you wanted performance and all the mod cons you bought the rs2000. The mexico sat somewhere between the 2 and wasnt really needed. Again these arent proven numbers, but apparently there were over 10000 mk2 rs2ks produced, but a mere 2400 mk2 mexicos. Add that to the fact the rally boys liked the flat front shells, and that explains why there are so few mk2 mexicos nowadays, and ironically, because they were so shit when new and no-one bought them, now they are the rare car and thus much sought after Whereas the mk1 mexico was actually an awesome car for its time and flew out of the factory (not literally)

I have the numbers of 5 people who have told me to get in contact with them if i ever choose to sell mine (yes i know its easy to say that and chances are if i called them they would no longer be looking, or be a Tommy/tyre kicker, but the fact they chose to contact me without even putting my car up for sale does imply there are more people looking than cars avaliable). But i would have to think long and hard if i ever thought about parting with it as you have to wonder how long it will be until you come across another one.
Dont get me wrong, i'm not talking the mk2 rs2000 down, they have a massive following as to many people they are THE car to have, and they will forever be popular, but there is no denying they are a darn sight easier to come across than their flat front cousins (not saying a good one isnt special and/or rare )

As for market value/comparison.... really is hard to judge. Depends how many people are looking at the time, and how many are avaliable. I would say there isnt much in it tbh, the mex has the rarity, and the rs2000 has the prestige (think thats right?)

Not trying to start any arguments/fallouts/knock anyones cars. The above is all just my opinion, and is open for debate

Must be the same for all types of classic cars.
