  • I think the time has come...

    Hi Guys,
I have been hankering over owning a mk1 or 2 escort now for a fair few years but have yet to do so. I am well into my mk3 escorts and have just put my very nice caspian RS1600i with turbo conversion up for sale and if it sells I'm hoping now is the time to own one of the above!

I'm really new to all this and don't know much about either model and TBH, I'm a little scared of buying a non original one should I choose to go RS2k or Mex etc! Is there a buyers guide on what to look for? I will probably buy a car off a known person to try to reduce the risk too! My budget will be at a max of about 10k so I know I'm not going to get concours etc but will this get me a nice example? There is a red flat front 2000 on ebay now at 10 that looks really nice, does anyone know it? Also, a mk2 mex in yellow on there too! Sounds a really genuine car and seller. Again anyone know it?

    Many thanks, Lee..

Everything is there to put back to standard Steven. Id throw it all in with the price. You'd then get over a grand for the engine, coolers, turbo, loom etc

In my opinion,if you want a standard car with cast iron provenance then your budget will just about get a tidy runner, needing some work..good cars do come up occasionally at reasonable money,I'm thinking taffr's rs2000 here, but don't hang around for long..it's definitely better to buy the very best car that you can afford as restoration costs are prohibitive...a club member had his rs2000 for sale at national day,not sure if it's sold?

Hi Lee, lovely 16i you have there, i did the same as you a couple of years back and sold a very nice 16i and bought a mk2 Mex.
Like Kas said bide your time and wait for a known car to come on the market .
All said £10000 is a lot of cash too lose on a shiny fake RS

Cheers guys. It is a bit daunting I must admit as I know from reading things on the net that reshells were popular back in the day! The yellow mex on ebay seems a very original car but again - what do I know!

RSRED? Same RSred that owned the black 16i I assume?

Yes Lee thats me was quite keen on your white 16i a couple of years back.
If i had the space and money another 16i would be in the garage
