  • Halewood build plates

After months spent trying to find an original Halewood build sheet for a Mk2 Escort (or someone at Ford who could recall the coding system), I've drawn a complete blank. Nothing's turned up, and no one at Ford's press office will answer any questions (no surprises there ).

So with the help of HarrierTony I've been gathering the details of as many Halewood build plates as I can find. Would any of you guys be up for sending the details (or a pic if it's easier) of your build plates? I don't mean the VIN tag - I mean the body-coloured tag on the slam panel at the passenger side.

We don't need your car's individual chassis number - just all the other letters and numbers on the plate.

For example, this is my 1600 Sport's build plate:

    ARTQML 5 FG X
    IQ ARS 8
ATAD87550 <---- we don't need to see these numbers
    WR WHITE

I've deciphered a few digits on the plates but I'm still a long way off. If we can get enough together we may be able to make a good stab at decoding it all. The results would be published here first, of course.

Thanks for any help. Please get in touch with me or HarrierTony with any details. Please include what model your car is too (ie Pop Plus, 1300 Sport or whatever).

Of course, if anyone has a Halewood build sheet kicking around, please don't keep it to yourself.

If you want to photoshop your chassis number off or cover it with some tape etc, thats absolutely fine, as well as the model that Dan has asked for, could you also tell us what year your car is please, as a 1976 spec Escort L will have a different build spec to a 1980 Escort L.
Any help you can provide Dan will be very much appreciated and will help get Dans long awaited book published asap. I cant wait to get my hands on my pre booked copy

If you want it, get it, before someone else beats you to it.

Any help is very much appreciated.

No books are dependent on the info (although adding it to the Mk2 book would be nice). But I've spent so long puzzling over it all that I need some closure...

Surely someone is bound to have an original ?
I have a German build sheet from my RS2000 but thats not exactly what you need.

Indeed - and thanks for sending me the info.

In fact, if it wasn't for seeing your sheet, I might not have thought to look for a Halewood version...

Ah yes, I remember now that it was yourself and Dave that I sent the details to.

They must be very rare ?

Only ever heard about build sheets for Halewood Mk2s. Never seen one or spoken to anyone who's seen one. A bit like ghosts. Or silver Mk2 RS2000s. Or pretty girls in Peterborough.

Unless you know different, Dave? (Not the bit about Peterborough - I know they don't exist.)

Has anyone found any Halewood build plates? Anyone know anyone else with a British-built Mk2 we could ask???

Or has anyone found a Mk2 build sheet down the back of their sofa/Escort's back seat?

Sorry I cannot help as I have never owned a British built Mk2 Escort only MK1's.

Hey, no worries. It's sad to think how many British Mk2s have disappeared without a trace.
