Word of warning. Declare absolutely EVERYTHING to the insurer. Also, Make sure you have a bonafide Club valuation in place be it RSOC, AVO SEOC or whoever as these are worth their weight in Gold, Trust Me. Personal Valuations are open to speculation come the time................ Make sure that they are done properly.
ALWAYS read the small print on the insurance policy. Make sure you get an agreed value certificate also.

It's not insured at the moment: None really knows it's there as it's been there since we moved in 11 years ago and some of he neighbours didn't even live here then. However at some point I'll pull it out of the garage to wash it down and maybe do some work outside if the weather is nice, so I want it covered as it'll get noticed then no doubt.
Question is how do I insure a car for a realisitic agreed value which has been off the road for so long? I want it covered for a good amount as apart from the wing rails the rest of the car is perfect: Wheel arches, heater bubble, etc are mint, so no further welding needed, just cleaning up and some paintwork to give some idea of it's condition.
I may want to do some mods once it's back on the road (possibly the brakes beforehand to save doing work twice), so that needs to be considered as well.

just spoke to 'need to insure' - http://www.needtoinsure.co.uk/car.html
have to say - this is the first company i've come across that really understand these cars, when i said i wanted a quote for car insurance his first question was 'i take it its an RS' - yes i said mk2 mexico, but its modified, 'whats it got, a pinto, zetec, yb?' - 'normally aspirated yb' - 'on 45s?' - 'no jenvey throttle bodies' - 'ahh nice, track car or show car' - 'show car'...
waiting for a call back now

ok its been interesting..
I've gone with 'need to insure' - the final price i paid was £346.50 down from the initial renewal offer from Adrian Flux of £565
Lesson is - you must shop around. I guess this is even more important on modified cars as the prices for the insurance on these is less defined by the insurance industry as a whole.
To be fair to Adrian Flux once i told them they matched the quote from need to insure - but I didnt feel it should be up to me to find out what the market rate should be, especially as I did initially call them and say I was going to shop around and offered them to chance to better their price. I was also impressed with the more personal service i got from the smaller broker and his knowledge of these sort of cars and what i should be paying to insure one - i'd certainly recommend others give Antony at http://www.needtoinsure.co.uk/car.html a call. Many thanks to taffr for initially suggesting them
