I like all the sympathy on here.

I got the same from my mates 5 weeks ago when I fell over ****ed and dislocated my collarbone, bust my eyebrow open and knocked myself out. I'm an oldtimer (65) and should know better as well.

    Get well soon.
Gone to the Dark Side but still lurking!

I'm currently sporting a beard because the angle grinder kicked back into my face when I was using a wire brush attachment. It caught my lip, gum and side of my mouth/cheek. Lucky it wasn't as bad as I first thought and the OH did a great job cleaning it up with neat alcohol (won't let me drink it though, spoilsport ) and I'd had a Tetnus top up jab a few months before.

I was getting on quite well with the inner wing repairs upto that point too. I now have a full face visor rather than just the goggles and ear defenders I was using on that day.

Angle grinders: Treat them with respect (as I now say).

Thanks for all the good wishes guys. I will be very wary of using this again as even wearing goggles, ear defenders and engineering gloves didn't help me in this case.
A nurse told me the story of her brother who had an angle grinder disc shatter and a piece went through the goggles and into his eye. Bad enough, you'd think........but he then pulled out the fragment (well, you would, wouldn't you) which disconnected the retina and he lost the sight in that eye.
          Be VERY careful guys.
          Cheers

Oooo sh1t! I did the exact same thing the other day.
I was using a wire wheel on the grinder on my escort and when I stood up I felt it stab me in my knee. I had 5 mm of it under my skin. Luckily it came out cleanly and its not swelled up at all.
I had a heavy duty boiler suit on and thick trackies too.... those wheels are bloody dangerous but they do work well!
            Hope you get well soon

Yep, I have a lot of respect for angle grinders, alone the kickback. My old man's a chippy and he's lost a couple fingers on the spindle moulder or surfacer, I suppose I've been lucky thus far but you really have to take maximum care with the things. That said, I don't know if using quality discs makes a difference?
