I love these and I used to sell them...brand new!

I even had an Allegro Demonstrator in Russet brown, which had 1100 engine and biege vinyl interior. The square steering wheel was not as bad as it sounds, the corners where quite well rounded off and did not present any problem in driving. Nobody ever complained about it, but scorned about it all the time! It was just a gimmick to get the car known maybe, and later on it was replaced for the conventional round wheel.

The land crab was a very popular car in it's time, very strong and good for towing. It was the Princess that took over from it that had a very sad start in life.

In 1969 the Maxi was well ahead of it's time! It was the first British 5 door car, 1500 & 1750 OHC engines, Front Wheel Drive, 5-speed Gearbox, big inside, excellent family car. Hydralastic suspension which stayed feeling new, unlike springs and shockers which would deteriorate as they got older.

            Tim.

                      Indeed it is.

He was in the UK at the time between events and was looking for some late night back lane action but was disappointed to be taken out on a Motoring News event instead.

As he was a World Champion we were seeded in the experts class and would have won the event outright had it not been for the poor performance of the car, and the driver.

Dont think we would ever see Hannu in an Allegro ,he favored the Blue Oval and the four Rings
Is he still living in Florida any body know ?

Remember my dad bought a T plate inca yellow Maxi 1750HL (twin carb)
Mum used to scare the hell out of me never under 90 with the thing. Fell to bits with rust about 4 years old, was my first panel beating job aged about 13 filling the wings with P40 lol

                              Also old & brown

Old, brown and a very long way from home.

I saw this today parked up in the Tempelhof region of Berlin today

I can't believe somebody drove this to Harwich or Dover and got off the ferry and came down to Berlin in a Maxi

I suppose they must have, the steering wheel's on the right side and all
