they came in from the back of the farm over the fields - Bernard found a barb wire fence had been cut this morning

made some stronger alterations to the door this afternoon and are putting up security lights at the weekend along with audio alarms on the door ............... try to make it visually secure rather than fort knox, cos they'll only cause more damage if they can't get their way

That's the best way. Plenty of cameras, dummy and/or real and 24Hr lighting.
We had a right vicious German Shepard running loose around the yard as well.
Unfortunately he only lasted about ten seconds as he was clubbed to death on first contact.
If the professional thief wants it, it's gone.
We have found like you say that if you lock internal doors and cupboards you have only them to replace as well as the nicked goods.
Just try to deter all the oppertunists driving around looking an easy score.

If only the courts could also act as a deterrent.
