If you own it now you can get the V888 form from the DVLA off the internet

As Martin correctly points out DVLA will only pass information to the current registered keeper, if its an RS the club may hold information but this is also covered by the Data Protection Act.

If its a standard mk2 that you owned years ago your only option is the DVLA Vehicle check on its website, punch in the reg number and you will find out if it is taxed, sorned or date of liability (when its last tax expired) , you can usually tell if its dead or alive.
