  • Honister slate mine

For all those who've done a few lakes tours you'll remember this as a stop on a recent tour.

I paid the mine a visit on Sunday, and did the guided mine tour.

Sunday evening on BBC4 there was a documentary called 'Stories from the national parks" which covered the problems that Honister mine are having with local planning permission and Natural England.

Very moving coverage of the late owner, Mark Weir, who was killed in a helicopter crash earlier this year.

Then Honister mine was shown on James May's Man Lab last night too.

I'd recommend a visit down the mine, well worth it
    Cheers Rob.

Have done the tour with the late owner. Ex forces, put massive amount of time and money into the mine to turn it around. Sound bloke , another waste of talent to a helicopter crash

I watched that show the other night and was really taken a back with his death. Watching it you really got a connection to him and to what he was doing. Proper guy with proper values.
But what about all the shit he was getting from the so called natural England, why is it the loony liberials have so much say and power?.
When they were walking that walk way one of them picked a tiny leaf and got all excited and said, six people must lose there jobs and thousands of people enjoyment must stop because of it, then a sheep came along and ate it...........
