Old escorts you have to love them
Decide to take the old girl out for a blast and give her a treat with some fresh super unleaded that part of the journey ok 25 miles no problems ,
the return trip blasting along happily passing the usual weekend snails who seem to be in reverse listening to the radio when it cuts out think it must have blown the fuse somehow so continue on my merry way thinking must get some 5amp glass fuses just in case i need them ,
Then start to feel steering pulling to the right it is very windy so think its just that but no slowly getting worse so pull in and car cuts out also feckin puncture , into the boot retrieve the spare ,jack ,wheel key and proceed to change wheel which luckily was still usable,
after changing the wheel clear up and go to start the car and zilch nada nothing so open the bonnet and after some searching, swearing, burnt fingers ,finally find that the alternator plug has came out and therefore the car has been running on the battery alone and ran it flat more swearing ensued ,
placed the plug back where it belonged and tried the old fecker but no go really losing the plot now then decide to try and bump start it as on a slight hill down to a junction ,fingers crossed pushed her off and after the second attempt it fired thank the lord as its a high compression n/a cossie which is difficult enough to start with a fully charged battery let alone a solo attempt at a push start ,
parked it in the garage and removed the battery to charge it and the next time its out i am going to beat the living daylights out of it i will show it who is the boss ,as long as it doesnt break down again

Just as well you wasn't in a new car or else you would have to drive with a space saver and take the front bumper off to reach the alternator .

To be honest i have done about 5000 miles with the cossie engine fitted and apart from a couple of clutch cables ,fan belts and todays disaster concerning the plug coming out its been quite reliable as i usually rev the life out of it at every opportunity its all good fun and gives a reason for tinkering or upgrading said component failures , on the plus side it has shocked a few so called hot hatches as its screamed past at 8000 rpm with a happy owner at the wheel cheers Wullie

                      How true, modern motors eh?

I'tell you summat though, the more you modify the car away from standard, the more problems you'll get. That was always my experience.

                        I had similar problems yesterday,
Had the car in for mot at 10 am..
On Thursday I ran it up, check over all the lights etc and all aok..

Friday morning came to it and it wouldn't start for love or money, test missed and re booked for 13.00

Went back to the car, started no problem, no lights!!!

2 hours of messing and she had everything working again...

Thrashed it to mot, passed and took it home...

                        The joys!!
